Located in the heart of Manchester City centre is the gay district around Canal Street. This area gained countrywide fame as the location of the television series "Queer as Folk".
This is accepted as the largest gay area outside of London and is visited by thousands every week. It is also "party central" with lots of great bars.
Canal Street is known as such due to it running along side the Rochdale canal. Previously a run down area, it now boasts flambouyant clubs, bars and hotels.
The "Village" hosts 3 clubs, 26 bars and 2 restaurants. Perhaps the most well known are G-A-Y Manchester, Legends Club, Queer and Cruz 101 which is one of the longest established gay clubs in the UK. Cruz 101 is open every night except Tuesdays. It usually opens at 11pm and is open until between 5am and 6am
