The Gielgud Theatre has 889 seats set over three levels, and was completely refurbished in 2008. Its programme is an interesting mixture of the popular and the more daring. Along with the Duke of Yorks it maintains a varied and diverse programme that features both new work and revivals, musicals, comedies and straight theatre, in the great tradition of the West End theatres.

Each year the Globe Theatre Company rediscovers the dynamic relationship between the audience and the actor in this unique building. The Globe also welcomes international theatre companies to share the impact Shakespeares plays have had worldwide. Today, audiences of this "wooden O" sit in a gallery or stand informally as a groundling in the yard, just as they would have done 400 years ago.

Located on The Haymarket, the Haymarket Theatre Royal first opened in 1720 under the title of The Little Theatre in the Haymarket. In 1873 the Haymarket became the first theatre to present matinee performances, a custom that was shortly followed by other establishments.

This particular theatre changes its name to His or Her dependent on whether a man or woman is cushioning the throne, so when Queen Victoria ascended the throne in 1837, the theatre became Her Majestys Theatre Italian Opera House, with the latter part of the title dropped ten years later.

The London Palladium is one of Londons most famous theatres. It has been home to more Royal Variety Performances than any other venue, and was the home of televisions Ace Variety Theatre Of The World. Today, it programmes mainly large, popular musicals, many adapted from films, and maintains its high national profile. It is known for its musical variety shows, and is still one of the capitals most celebrated venues for musical theatre.

The Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue seats 924 people over 4 levels and is the oldest remaining theatre on Shaftesbury Avenu itself. Beware, however, not to confuse it with the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, which has a very different programming policy and is far enough away that if you get a taxi to the wrong one, you probably wont get back to the right one in time for the start of your show.
